Vaccination Protocols for Cat and Dog
Vaccinations For Dogs
Core Vaccines: these are the vaccinations we recommend for all dogs in our region.
Non-core Vaccines: these are the vaccinations that can be given in addition to the core
vaccinations for patients "at risk".
Puppies:
Core Vaccines (DAP and Rabies):
-start at 8 weeks old with DAP
-repeat DAP (1 Year) every 4 weeks until 16 weeks old or older
-give Rabies Vaccine at 16 weeks of age or older
-repeat Rabies one year later
-repeat DAP one year later
Non-Core Vaccines (Leptospirosis and Bordetella):
-give Leptospirosis and/or Bordetella at 12 and 16 weeks
-1st Bordetella is Intranasal, 2nd is injectable
-repeat Leptospirosis and/or Bordetella one year later
Adult Dogs:
Core Vaccines (DAP and Rabies):
If previously unvaccinated or unknown vaccination history:
-give DAP (1 Year) and Rabies vaccine
-repeat DAP (1 Year) 4 weeks later
If vaccine history is known:
-give DAP 1 year after initial vaccine, then every 3rd year
-give Rabies Vaccine 1 year after initial vaccine, then every 3rd year
Non-core Vaccines (Leptospirosis and Bordetella):
If previously unvaccinated or unknown vaccination history:
-give 2 doses of Lepto vaccine with a 3 week interval
-give 2 doses of Bordetella with a 3 week interval
-1st Bordetella is intranasal, 2nd is injectable
If vaccine history is known:
-give annual booster of injectable Bordetella
-give annual booster of Leptospirosis

Kittens:
Core Vaccines (FHCP, FELV and Rabies):
-start at 8 weeks old with FHCP (1 Year)
-repeat FHCP (1 Year) every 4 weeks until 16 weeks old
-give Rabies Vaccine at 16 weeks
-give Rabies one year later
-give FeLV vaccine at 12 and 16 weeks
-repeat FeLV one year later for "at risk" cats
Adult Cats:
Core Vaccines (FHCP and Rabies):
If previously unvaccinated or unknown vaccination history:
-give FHCP, FeLV and Rabies Vaccine
-repeat FHCP and FeLV 4 weeks later
If vaccine history is known:
-give FHCP 1 year after initial vaccine, then every 3rd year
-give Rabies Vaccine one year after initial vaccine, then every 3rd year
Non-core Vaccines (FeLV):
If vaccine history is known, give booster FeLV Vaccine annually for all "at risk" cats.
